Recyclable single-material laminates are typically more challenging to process than conventional mixed laminates. This is mainly due to a narrower processing temperature window, which arises from the use of a single group of materials with similar physical properties.
In the case of pure PE solutions, the challenge is somewhat greater than it is for polypropylene, for example. This applies both to cycle times on the packaging lines and to the upstream printing and lamination processes.
Due to improved BOPE qualities, the second-generation materials could be printed on, laminated and sealed much more effectively. At the same time, the expansion of barrier properties opens up significant potential for a wide variety of fill products.
All laminates were printed using recyclable PU-based inks and laminated with appropriate adhesive systems.
The second generation of BOPE at a glance:
BOPE-HD/BOPE-HD met/PE: Doy-style pouch, metallised via inline coating, particularly high barrier properties (OTR and WVTR << 1)
BOPE-HD/BOPE-HD-ILBC/PE: Doy-style pouch with transparent inline barrier coating
BOPE/PE-EVOH-PE: Pillow bag with market-standard EVOH high barrier (< 5 %)
BOPE-HD/BOPE-LD: Pillow bag with high puncture resistance and high downgauging potential
